Market proposals - a chance to find out more

Walsall Council invite all to attend a free public exhibition at the New Art Gallery between Friday 21st March, 10am-7pm and Saturday 22nd March, 10am-5pm, where you will have the opportunity to view the preferred new location and design for the market and provide further comments.

Markets are vital for local food, so we want to make sure that this propossal meets the needs of a greener Walsall. So please let us know what you think of the plans.

Why switching to a green energy supplier for your home needn't cost the earth

Local group member Balvant Mistry has nothing but praise for his new domestic electricity and gas supplier Ecotricity, who provide energy from renewable sources such as wind turbines.

Ecotricity also use their customer's bills to fund the building of new sources of green energy – 'turning bills into windmills'. They are a national partner of Friends of the Earth on climate change issues.

Balvant's found them to be, in his case, cheaper than his previous supplier and with great customer service, including providing large-print bills on request.

He did his research before switching – not just  satisfying himself that Ecotricity were a good deal, but that the company were well established and reliable, with a positive vision for a green future. The process of switching was also not at all bureaucratic – Ecotricity helped him every step of the way.

Balvant could do the right thing and not be out of pocket – which as someone with a young family was particularly important on both counts. In the last quarter of 2013, Balvant paid around £130 for his electricity, plus an estimated £190 for gas based on 2012 figures.

To put this in perspective, he thinks many of his neighbours in Chuckery could be paying around £400 and more for their bills across a similar timescale. So there you have it – green energy needn't cost the earth or mean a worse service for your home – quite the contrary!
